Since its establishment in 2010 (formally a department established in 1996), the Pawnee Nation Division of Natural Resources and Safety (DNRS) has been and continues to remain dedicated to the conservation, protection, management, and use of the tribe's natural resources; as well as promoting public education to help further understand and appreciate our natural resources. The well-being, quality of life, and safety of the public is also a priority within the Division. DNRS strives to enhance the lives of tribal and non-tribal citizens by interacting with the surrounding communities frequently to promote conservation and safety, and by collaborating with outside agencies to expand and improve services available to all citizens living within the Pawnee Nation jurisdictional boundaries.
The Division of Natural Resources and Safety consists of the following departments:
- Department of Environmental Conservation and Safety
- Department of Transportation and Safety
- Department of Fire and Rescue
- Department of Emergency Management
Although each department within the Division holds separate mission statements and objectives, the combination of departments provides ample opportunity for collaboration to better accomplish service objectives and in bringing new ideas to fruition.
