Divisions - Department of Environmental Conservation and Safety (DECS)

The Pawnee Nation Department of Environmental Conservation and Safety (DECS) was established in 1997 by the Pawnee Nation Environmental Regulatory Act (Title 10, Law and Order Code) and has continued to develop specific environmental and conservation management programs.

Program initiatives being developed under this reporting period include Water Quality (point source and nonpoint source pollution), Emergency Management, Safe Drinking Water, Fish and Wildlife Management, Solid Waste, Oil and Gas and other Natural Resource Management programs.

The DECS is currently receiving financial assistance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Pawnee Nation. Technical assistance is provided by the following federal and state agencies: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the U.S. Geological Service, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, the Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Oklahoma Conservation Commission.
