Joseph James Hawkins Jr. Obituary

Joseph James Hawkins Jr. came into this world a bubbly little bundle of energy on August 3, 1981 to Joseph James Hawkins Sr. and Rebecca LittleSun Hawkins in Lawton, Oklahoma. He left us on his spiritual journey Thursday, March 16, 2023.

He went to serve his country during the military Operation Iraqi Freedom, for which he served as a Petroleum Supply specialist for the total of 1 year and 4 days. While serving there, he met his future wife, Crystal Brambley. He proposed to her and soon they were married during their time serving together in Iraq.

After his military service, he returned home, which at the time was located in Pennsylvania, where they began their little family. During this time, the pull of returning to the home that he knew while growing up, he and his little family moved back to Oklahoma.

In Oklahoma, his little family moved a few times but eventually ended up in Pawnee where he began a series of occupations always with a thought in mind of providing for his children. He traveled to places all over the nation and became friends with all he met. Sadly, the happy little family was not to be and the marriage ended.

That event didn’t stop him from loving his children and he planned time to spend with them though his health began to fail. He loved spending time with his children and family celebrating birthdays and holidays. He enjoyed listening to all genres of music and participating in tribal events.

He enjoyed watching the Three Stooges, Marx Brothers and all types of movies which just added to his repertoire of jokes and quotes stemming from those entertainment venues. He would at times add a quote from his library of movies that fit the mood or conversation giving it a special meaning to those that he was visiting with.

As a proud member of the Pawnee Nation and a combat war veteran he enjoyed participating in many events whenever he could. He was part of the Pawnee Nation Veterans Organization, served as a Commissioner on the Pawnee Nation Sports Commission and participated in several events sponsored by those organizations. Many loved his crazy sense of humor and his genuine laughter and smile.

Joe leaves behind his parents Joe Sr and Rebecca Hawkins, brother Jonathan Hawkins of Pawnee, sisters, Sarah Smile Hawkins, Tamera Hawkins of Tulsa and Ruth Hawkins of Cushing and 4 children, Tristan, Caitlyn, Jackson and Jordyn Hawkins of Pawnee, Oklahoma and uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
