The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) flag and related insignia use specific colors to honor and remember the conflict. The flag features a golden yellow background, mirroring the color of the flag of the Republic of Vietnam and the Vietnam Service Medal ribbon. Seventeen brown stars represent the seventeen official campaigns of the Vietnam War. The VVA insignia is centered on the flag, incorporating the service ribbon design and a wreath with a laurel branch and rice stalks, tied with black barbed wire, symbolizing Southeast Asia, honor, and the POWs/MIAs. The Vietnam Service Medal ribbon, another key element, is green, yellow, and red, with the yellow representing the gold of the Republic of Vietnam flag. The other colors (red and green) are also present in the Vietnam Service Medal ribbon, according to the Vietnam War Commemoration website. The colors of the flag and ribbons are used across various Vietnam War commemoration materials, such as the official seal, to maintain consistency and honor the service members.
