Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma Hosts “Chosen & Protected Family Safety Resource Fair”

On Friday, November 14, 2025, the “Chosen & Protected” Family Safety Resource Fair was hosted as a “sidebar event” to the “Skidi – Safety Ambassador” event.

Pawnee Nation Police Chief David Kanuho and Officer Lauren DeLaune…

Skidi – Safety Ambassador” is a program and a new mascot for the Pawnee Nation Law Enforcement (PNLE) and the Pawnee Nation Police Department (PNPD) officers.

The event, which was also associated with the “2025 Child Awareness Event” in April 2025, focused on family safety resources and Indian Child Welfare initiatives. The combination of this event and the introduction to Skidi highlighted the overall goal of community safety!

The specific goal of the Pawnee Nation ICW program is to prevent the breakup of Pawnee families in crisis situations and ensure the best interests of Native children are met through advocacy, cultural connections, and recruitment of tribal foster homes.

Inside the costume is the Pawnee Nation Tax Commission Administrative Assistant, Louise Beard. Beard volunteered to wear the “Skidi” costume for the introduction and fair.

Pat Leading Fox, Head Resaru for the Nasharo (Rêsâru’karu) Council, starts the event with a traditional welcome speech.

2025 Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma Princess Cora Pratt holds a young baby as she visits with participants.
