PAWNEE NATION TRIBAL COURT POSITION ADVERTISEMENT

The Pawnee Nation Tribal Court has the following open positions, each position is given a stipend per court day and is responsible for carrying out faithfully the duties of the Tribal Court office to the best of their abilities:
One (1) Public Defender position
The Public Defender is primarily responsible for representing indigent individuals in criminal matters before the court. Specific duties include but not limited to:
•Representation of indigent adults and juveniles in criminal matters.
•Representation of parents in neglect and deprived actions before the court.
•Representation of juveniles in the capacity of guardian ad litem.
•Represents indigent individuals at bench trials.
•Negotiates plea agreements.
•Files motions, seeks places for defendants to perform community service, locates counseling to address client needs, explores alternatives to incarceration and investigates defendant’s cases.
•The Public Defender may be called upon to counsel within the tribal citizens residing within the jurisdiction of the Pawnee Nation.
•Performs other duties as may be assigned.
