Pawnee Nation Citizens:
June 14, 2008 marks an historic event for the Pawnee Nation. On that day a Referendum Vote of the Pawnee People will take place. Amendments to the Constitution of the Nation have been proposed through citizen input and now I am asking you, our citizens, to let your voices be heard. Our Constitution represents each one of us as Pawnee citizens so we all have a voice in its content. Let your voice be heard and vote.
As your President I cannot tell you how to vote in this Referendum. I have been elected to serve you, the people, just as the Constitution of our Great Nation serves you. I am asking you to stand up and be heard on June 14 th.
I have been greatly concerned lately that so few Requests for Absentee Ballots have come in to the Election Commission. For this reason, the Pawnee Business Council has authorized a mass mail out to the Pawnee People. This mail out has been a collaborative effort with many of our tribal employees donating their time to make sure that none of our voters are disenfranchised. The mail out contains a letter explaining all deadlines in this vote as well as a Request for Absentee Ballot. As of today, May 15, 2008, over 2,000 mail outs have left our offices and are on their way to you.
Requests for Absentee Ballots must be received by the Election Commission by May 24, 2008. Absentee Ballots must be received in the Election Commission’s post office box no later than noon on the day of the election. Election Day is June 14, 2008. The walk-in election will be held at the Pawnee Nation Tribal Reserve in the Multi-Purpose Building.
Sincerely,
George E. Howell
President, Pawnee Business Council
